Who here has seen a bunch of reddit videos of Russians getting maimed and killed in horrible ways? I know I have. It's not pleasant to watch. It's also not pleasant to watch Russian cruise missiles hit Ukrainian children's cancer hospitals.
This is an updated version of the original "On Tyranny" book.
The first part is the regular book.
The second part is a long talk by Snyder, super long, but valuable. It's a well-structured history lesson about where Putin's mystical mumbo-jumbo worldview came from. Russians are a very mystical and supernatural woo-woo people, and that's why they're destroying their nation so haphazardly. Blind faith can kill anyone.
Snyder's got a LOT of experience with Russians and Ukrainians. Of all the English speakers in the world, he's the most well-versed on Ukrainian politics, the Ukraine War, etc.
The history lesson really opened my eyes. I was like, "So THIS is why all those Russian dudes are getting killed by cheap Wal-mart drones. All because Putin and his supporters believe that they have to save the world, but that the only way to save the world is to make Russia "whole" again. And the only way to make it "whole" is to bring Ukraine back into the Russian sphere." Snyder deconstructs those crazy ideas point by point, and tells the true story of Ukraine.
People who need to hear this:
Russians
Ukrainians
All Eastern Europeans
Americans who want to let Ukraine die
Americans who want to save Ukraine

Pinny Poot-Poot
Potty Pee-Pee Poo-Poo
Russia will be free of tyranny, someday! But definitely not today. Oh no. It's going to take a while.
Maybe 30 years.
